Many of Chez Nestor's tenants are international, living in France for a while or permanently, and many of them are Erasmus students, in France for 6 months to a year. If you are an Erasmus student coming to France to study or to do an internship, then Chez Nestor offers a very convenient solution.

We know that it is hard to find accommodation in Paris, especially for a foreign student who only plans to stay 6 months or a year. Are you wondering where to start regarding living situations in a future shared apartment? Then discover our guide to good roommates in Paris right here. One of the advantages of our solution is that you can stay as long as you want in our rooms. About half of our apartments are occupied by international tenants, so we are well experienced in housing services suited to your needs.

Another advantage is that you will never need to interact with your landlord directly, as your only point of contact will be our staff who speak your language.

What type of contract will you have for your flatshare in Paris?

With Chez Nestor, it doesn't matter what room, studio or coliving space you want to live in, because your lease will always be an "individual lease".

This means two things. First, you can still take advantage of CAF assistance for financial aid.

But this type of lease also means that you will be solely responsible for paying your rent. You are not responsible for the unpaid rent of other people living in the apartment. This is the safest type of lease for a tenant.

The guarantor in shared accommodation with Chez Nestor

Since our main goal is to facilitate your access to housing, we have set up an extremely simplified guarantor system so that you can live in our different accommodations without unnecessary hassle. You can find all the information you need about our guarantor requirements for a flatshare or coliving in Paris right here.

Just keep in mind that your country of origin and your income or that of your guarantor will play a role in the validation of your application, but you should not encounter any difficulties in getting your application validated.

As we mentioned in the previous paragraph, one of the big advantages of the individual lease for a tenant in student housing or in a colocation or coliving space in Paris is that you can claim the help of the CAF.

Whether you are a foreigner, Erasmus student or of French origin, the CAF will always be able to help you finance your housing without discrimination. The amounts can vary according to your profile and can reach up to 300 € of aid per month. So don't hesitate to follow our guide to help you better anticipate and prepare your budget!

Districts and boroughs

In Paris, the district of your choice is a very important decision making factor, based on the distance to your school or workplace. Choose your neighborhood according to its proximity to a metro or bus station. Of course, the price of your shared apartment in Paris will depend on several criteria such as your chosen district, the size of your room, the number of roommates; or the type of apartment.

Rent prices and budget

With an average price for a room in a flatshare of about €850, Paris is the city where you will need the biggest budget in France for accommodation, no matter which real estate agency or website you use. But at this price you will only have a room and common areas of average quality. Moreover, you will not be in the center of Paris but in the outskirts or even a neighbouring town.

If you want to live in a good quality furnished shared apartment, you will have to budget at least €950. At these prices your room will be of good quality, you will have a minimum of furniture and decoration but if you are in the hyper-center of Paris, do not expect to have large common spaces like a living room that can accommodate your friends or a Netflix night with your roommates. If you want to find out more details about the price levels of Parisian shared accommodation, and how the different costs and charges are calculated, then feel free to follow this link which will give you a lot of detailed information.

With a budget of around €1,000 all inclusive or a little more, you will be sure to find pleasant student housing in a downtown area of Paris. At this price, the services offered and the accommodation will be very comfortable. The common areas will be spacious and comfortable and will allow you to invite friends or family over for an evening or a meal.

Of course, these figures are averages and it is mainly the choice of neighborhood that will determine the average price per square meter that you will have to spend.

Rooms in apartments or houses

Coliving does not necessarily mean living in an apartment, but in Paris, the closer you get to the center, the less likely you are to find a flatshare.

Sharing an apartment in Paris

Although it may be slightly less pleasant than in a house, a Parisian shared apartment may have a courtyard, balcony or even a terrace. You will have a good chance of seeing the Seine in Paris if you are located in the right arrondissement. However, you will usually have fewer rooms or less common space available and you will have to get used to urban noise.

You may be wondering: what is a flatshare in Paris? We have created a guide to help you. Nevertheless, almost everything is within walking distance from your apartment, from gyms to cinemas, from stores to other places of entertainment. And even if you want to go to a specific district, you will often be very close to a metro station which will facilitate your travel.

Flatshare in a house in Paris

Every roommate will tell you, being able to enjoy a barbecue in your garden far from downtown Paris is more than pleasant during the hot sunny summer days. This type of property is rarely available in downtown Paris. You will therefore have to spend a lot of time on public transport to commute to school or work. So whether you decide to live in a house or an apartment, each option will have its own advantages, but it is often your age or your place of work that will define how you make your choice.

All charges are included in the rent of Chez Nestor

For your convenience, all Chez Nestor charges are included in the price. These include :

  • Internet

  • Water

  • Electricity

  • Gas

  • Taxes on household waste

  • Housing insurance

Therefore, you will never have to open an internet line, or be in contact with an insurance company or with a service provider for water or electricity. Everything is ready when you arrive.

Transportation in Paris

If you visit Paris and need to get around, the public transportation system will be one of your best friends. The Paris metro network is very extensive and covers most of the districts. There are also buses and trams. Ticket prices vary depending on the number of zones you will cross. Here is an overview of the different types of transportation available in Paris, as well as information on prices and how to use them!

The Paris metro is often the most popular form of public transportation for residents and tourists alike. With over 300 stations and 12 different lines, the metro is a convenient and efficient way to get around the city. Each line has a unique color and number that makes it easy to identify, such as the red line or the green line.

Subway tickets can be purchased at any station, and prices vary depending on the number of zones you will be traveling through. Single trip tickets usually cost between €1.90 and €2.80, while subscriptions that allow you unlimited travel within certain periods or zones can cost between €14.50 and €75 per month.

If you want to explore other parts of the city, you can also use buses or streetcars to get around. These modes of transportation are generally cheaper than the metro, but they can take longer due to traffic or construction.

Whether you're exploring Paris alone, with friends, family, or your roommates, the public transportation system is a great way to get around and see all that this beautiful city has to offer!

Coliving in Paris

Coliving is becoming an increasingly popular and common lifestyle. Maybe you don't know what the difference is between coliving and a shared apartment in Paris. That's why we've put together a guide on the subject. Simply put, coliving is a form of sharing with more services which is often more focused on community life in the apartment.

Flatshare with students and young workers

You have probably already thought about it, moving can be complicated from a social point of view. Discovering a new city, a new neighborhood, new colleagues or a new culture is already very challenging. Meeting new people and making new friends is not easy. That's why sharing a flat is a great way to develop new relationships with new people! Living with several people under the same roof is often a great way to integrate, especially in the city of Paris where the culture is so unique.

Sharing a flat with students

If you are moving to a Chez Nestor flatshare in Paris and your roommate is a student, there is no doubt that you will make friends. You'll enjoy going to bars, traveling with your roommate, partying all night and meeting new people. Your life will be much more exciting, but also more exhausting!

Another scenario can be that your roommate is a student on an internship. Whether he or she is a foreigner in France for an internship or a French person who is away for a few months, you will have the opportunity to meet people from another culture!

Sharing a flat with young professionals

A flatshare with young professionals will in most cases be quieter than with international or French students who are studying or doing internships. It is easier to plan relaxed Netflix evenings, or pleasant moments cooking together. Often students prefer to live with other students and young professionals prefer to stay with each other but there is no specific rule in our accommodation!
